Re: Hermanns System

I only listened to "Take Five" and preferred G2, the drummer sounded a bit disjointed on G1.

I've had that impression a bit with the '92-spec deck (+Adikt) but thought it seemed about right once it was bought up to 2002-spec, but maybe I just got used to it. Any thoughts on what might be causing it, or where to look?

Re: What Makes a Loudspeaker Musical?

I hate Kans! They are too transistor radioey for me. May I ask which source and amps were used in front of the Kans? They are quite sensitive there and reveal lesser sources ruthlessly. With a top-LP12 from that time, Kairn pre-amp and 2 x Klouts, they sounded all but anemic and certainly not trans...

Re: Akurate DSM modifications

Yes, I have. There are a number of those out there. Unfortunately I have yet to hear one. But judging by Mr. Volk's views and comments on the improvements, I suspect they aim primarily at "improving the sound" and not the tune. So beware and do listen before taking such a step or buying one second-h...

Re: What Makes a Loudspeaker Musical?

The thing with Linn's choice of drivers for the 360 is that if they were aiming at speakers that are a good compromise between looking good and sounding good, then the Seas drivers make a lot of sense. But in that case, why not aim to produce speakers that retail at £3000 to £15,000? In that market...

They are European sourced, so far it hasn't been revealed (officially anyway) from which supplier/s. Pretty sure they aren't standard issue, but adapted to Linn's specifications. The mid driver has some resemblance to some of PMC's drivers, let's see if it will be revealed, when the 360's are offici...

It seems a bit like a modern day Axis with a Rega arm (it's actually a Moth RB220), probably a very good choice, if you can't afford an LP12. It's actually Wallop with only one "p".

Re: Cartridge dilema

Find someone to rebuild it. That's certainly doable for that kind of money. You could get it done with the same boron cantilever and stylus (by Ogura), that Linn/Lyra uses. However, if you need it right away, maybe better a Koil or the AT, that it's based on. Otherwise, a Dynavector 10X5 Mk II Neo ...
