Re: Boring hifi forbidden!

That is a wise choice and what I have been doing for many years before it finally came to me when I tried to upgrade my system. The recordings we listen to are just as different and "flawed" as the systems we can find in the shops and this makes it even more difficult to recognise. So just keep on e...

Re: Boring hifi forbidden!

The "more often than not, it's a trap" I recognise so well. When trying to optimise setup and so on it is so easy to get it wrong.

Re: Boring hifi forbidden!

Yes, I'm not on a crusade against new Linn or digital. I am just looking foreward to me listening to a digital based system that really satisfies me :-) And now a little test: Take your copy of The Beatles Mono Masters. Listen to the first 2 or 3 tracks on side one. If you notice something different...

Re: Boring hifi forbidden!

Back to the subject: I had a listen at my friends house to his Sneaky, Majik 109 system and lovely detailed it was. Listened for two hours also on vinyl with a Project record player. All sounding very nice but I never got involved in the music being played and when I came home I noticed a clear diff...

I had better luck with Hifi Forum in Copenhagen. So that is where I have to travel to.

Re: Where do one listen to Lejonklou?

Thank you! I called Scala Hifi in Aarhus but they said that they had listened to Lejonklou but didn't sell them? They are more interested in selling me Linn stuff.

Where do one listen to Lejonklou?

Living in Denmark I have not yet found a place where I can listen to Lejonklou. Do I have to travel to Sweden?

Yes, changing cartridge is not an easy task. Thank you for your answers. I will think about it and try to get a chance to listen to one or two of the ones you have pointed out to me.

New cartridge needed!

My Klyde is worn out and I would like a cheaper but somewhat simular sounding cartridge. I use a Linto so what am I looking for?

Re: On the topic of "Watermark" in music files

It is really sad to see how difficult it is to get unaltered recordings when going digital. No wonder I gave that up a long time ago!

Re: Boring hifi forbidden!

Thank you for playing along with me on this tread. So interesting and inspiring! So many comments could be made. I will make one: When teaching I often tell my students to listen to their own playing without being judgemental. They just have to listen and be positive about and interested in what hap...

Boring hifi forbidden!

It is like being reborn. After a long and tiresome walk towards "perfect" hifi you wake up and find yourself wondering what happend! I started looking for a great hifi system to enhance my enjoyment of recorded music a long time ago. Going from my Sony Receiver and Sony speakers to my first Linn sys...

Re: Preamps with DSs

Now you just need to buy a Sondek and you are home free! ;-)

But then again, that means buying more stuff to connect it to the system! Maybe not. :-)

On a serious note: the way you discribe the sound from your new system tells me that you got it right! Congratulation with your new Tundra.

Re: Just listen!

I would say that the "Ivor version" of "Just Listen" is all about changing as little as possible making it possible to listen and react as you would when listening to live music. What Ivor found out when he started was that mechanical and electric imperfections in the replay chain could push the sou...

Re: Preamps with DSs

So what is going on when a hifi reviewer from hifi critic notice a degration of the sound from the klimax exact system when lowering the volume?

I am talking about the review that can be found on the Linn webside.

Re: Just listen!

Yes, I am talking about the remastering of records and early days of digital. I will leave it up to the jury to make the verdict on todays digital offerings. But there is no doubt in my mind: going for the "old" Linn sound avoiding digital interference in the signal chain from record to amplifiers g...

Re: Just listen!

The more I listen the better I understand that it is ever so simple. I take an old record from before digital arrived and listen to full bodied sounds from the bass, drums and the rest. That is the quality of "in tune" sound. Then I take the digital remaster and the body of the sounds have vanished ...

Re: Beck and his black boxes.

Having listened all day long it is clear to me that I have made the right move by reaching back to the "old" Linn sound. It gives me a more narrow soundfield where notes gets reinforced by each other and giving the bass drum the right kick and a snare drum that "snares" at you. It is a sound that ca...

Just listen!

The headline stolen from the Linn forum and from Linn just to underline that listening to hifi should be simple. Sitting today listening to Beatles in mono reminds me that I do not miss stereo at all. I just go with the flow of music. So a truly musical hifi system is the one where you play music in...

Re: Linn discontinues all analog preamps!

As an analog addict it is sad news but then again I now only get my fix on the second hand marked and the choices are plenty. Linn has made a company decision. The future is digital. I don't blame them. I follow my heart and it tells me to follow the analog path. I remember the poster from Linn with...

Re: Beck and his black boxes.

I have now moved to my new house for the next half year while the old place gets rebuild from the ground up. The new place is a house like the old one with the same rooms and I placed my system in the same bedroom at the same spot. For a couple of days I listened and could not get the kind of sound ...

Re: Linn LK240 mono amplifiers

I got great sound by combining a late Kairn Pro and my 2250. A bigger sound with more seperated detail. But it is not to my liking and by saying this I will bring myself in opposition to many who like the "new" Linn sound. I am moving backwards to the sound of yesterday (when Ivor had his hands on t...
